Arvid Marklund

Arvid Marklund is a research assistant within the Governance, Technology and Complexity (GTC) Programme. His work spans from broadly studying the risks and opportunities associated with AI-powered emotion recognition and responsiveness in the context of sustainability, to more specific applications such as the use of Natural Language Processing (NLP) in social bot mediated climate disinformation on social media.

Marklund holds a MSc in Psychology and a psychologist license. As a psychologist he has mainly worked on forensic psychiatric investigations at the National Board of Forensic Medicine (Rättsmedicinalverket).

He has a background in computer programming where he has worked in numerous capacities including back-end coding with database handling and cryptography, constructing a facial expression mirroring on-screen robot, planning and utilising machine learning techniques, and development along with consequent research on two mental health smartphone applications, at Stockholm University and Uppsala University respectively.

His research interests also includes the study of how technology can be built to inherently facilitate prosocial activities, such as cooperation, trust and sharing of resources. The vision being to bring forth technological structures that makes human beneficial processes meet with less resistance than toxic ones, as a way to achieve social as well as ecological sustainability.
