Deputy Director Anne-Sophie Crépin appointed Professor of Sustainability Economics

As of March 2026, the Beijer Institute’s Anne-Sophie Crépin has joined the faculty of the Vienna University of Economics and Business as Professor of Sustainability Economics.

We are pleased to share that Anne-Sophie Crépin, Deputy Director of the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics, has been appointed Professor of Sustainability Economics at WU Vienna.

Anne-Sophie earned her PhD in economics from Stockholm University in 2002, and was appointed Associate Professor there in 2017. Since 2009, she has served as Deputy Director of the Beijer Institute, where her research focuses on the complex relationships between economic systems and the biosphere. Her work bridges economics, ecology, human behaviour, systems thinking and sustainability science.

In addition to her research and leadership role at the Beijer Institute, Anne-Sophie is a senior researcher at the Stockholm Resilience Centre and serves as a scientific advisor to the Swedish government’s research council Formas.

As of this month, she begins her professorship at WU Vienna’s Department of Socioeconomics, where she will contribute to research and teaching on the economic dimensions of sustainability and the governance of social-ecological systems.

Reflecting on the appointment, Anne-Sophie notes that the position represents an exciting step for her research: “It’s exciting to get a chance to meet new people with whom I haven’t collaborated before and to spread some of the advances in my field through teaching.”

She looks forward to getting to work with both faculty of students, developing teaching materials and giving lectures related to tipping points and economics. “I look forward to new opportunities to extend my collaborative networks and learn a lot by meeting new colleagues and students” , she says.

Anne-Sophie will continue her work as Deputy Director at the Beijer Institute and her research on the complex interactions between society and nature on a human-dominated planet while working part-time at WU Vienna.
