Johan holds a PhD in natural resource management in Systems Ecology at the Stockholm University. He is currently employed as an Associate Professor at the Beijer Institute, and as a theme-leader for the theme Urban social-ecological systems and globalization at The Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC).
Johan is also part-time employed as a research coordinator at HiG Urban Studio – a strategic driven research program on urban sustainability at the University of Gävle. The mission of HiG Urban Studio is to stimulate research on urban sustainability through the integration of socio-technical environmental research with that of research on social-ecological urbanism.Johan’s main interests cover sustainability science, resilience thinking, urban design and planning, urban ecology, natural resource management, property rights and institutional designs for sustainable management of urban ecosystem services.
